- Tension, used in many horror films to make the audience fear that something is coming which could result in what was expected or nothing happens till a moment later to surprise the audience. For example, Jaws is famous for it soundtrack, that creates tension as its implying that the shark is getting closer.
- Identifying something, soundtracks can be used to identify a certain character in a film. The Good The Bad The Ugly's soundtrack uses the identity of each of the three main characters. A different instrument was used for each: flute for Blondie, ocarina for Angel Eyes and human voices for Tuco. To give a understanding to the audience to the fear and toughness each character had.
- A soundtrack can also portray a type of emotion possible felt by a character to make it clearer to audiences to whats happening in a scene.
- Many films are remember only because of there soundtracks, using a soundtrack can give emotions to the audience to remember the film and what the film is like through remembering the soundtrack, whether they remember it as scary, fun or sad.
